We were fined just before entering Malaysia, turning what should have been a straightforward border crossing into an unexpected start to our time in a new country.

In this episode of our round-the-world motorcycle ride, we leave Thailand and cross the land border into Malaysia, dealing with immigration, paperwork, and the realities of overland travel by motorcycle. Border crossings are never quite as simple as you expect, and this one came with a surprise that wasn’t our fault.

Once inside Malaysia, we begin riding through a new landscape, adjusting to new roads, new rules, and a very different rhythm of travel. This is our first day riding in Malaysia, and it marks the start of another chapter of our journey around the world on one motorcycle.
