VIFF 2023 | ForReel On The Film RED ROOMS With Director Pascal Plante & Producer Dominique Dussault

Pascal Plante is the director of Red Rooms and Dominique Dussault is the producer. The film had its BC premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival.

VIFF synopsis: Every morning before dawn, Kelly-Anne (Juliette Gariépy) descends on a Montréal courthouse, eager to secure front row seats for the harrowing trial of Ludwig Chevalier (Maxwell McCabe-Lokos), a loner accused of the torture and murder of three teenage girls. Even more disturbingly, these atrocities were streamed online in the Dark Web’s “red rooms” to depraved audiences who could ante up the ungodly cryptocurrency admission. As Kelly-Anne’s obsession grows, her personal life and career unravel as she plunges into the seediest recesses of the Dark Web to secure a key piece of evidence.

In this conversation, Thomas Stoneham-Judge talks with Pascal and Dominique about the style of filming for the film and the decisions made on how to best capture scenes inside and outside of the courtroom. They also discuss the various reactions audiences have had to the film so far, noting drastic differences between Quebec audiences and West Coast audiences.
