Hi there MDX owners, today in our 2019 Acura MDX, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install curts class three, two inch trailer hitch receiver. And this is what our hitch is going to look like when it's installed. The cross tube is going to be completely hidden behind the bumper, so you're only going to be able to see the receiver here at the back. It's a class three, two inch by two inch receiver, so it's going to be great for all of your towing needs. Whether you're going to take some jet skis to the Lake or take your camper off for a weekend trip, this hitch should be able to handle just about anything.It uses a 5/8-inch hitch pin and clip. Now, one doesn't come included with the hitch, but you can pick one up here at etrailer.com.

It features hoop style safety chain loops that have a very large opening, that should easily accommodate every shape, size and style of safety chain. It features a 900 pound tongue weight, and that's the force going down on top of the receiver, which that should be plenty of tongue weight for your medium-sized trailers, as well as a bike rack, fully loaded up with four bikes. It also features a 6,000 pound gross towing capacity, and that's how much that it can pull behind it.It is rated for use with a weight distribution system. When using a weight distribution system, the tongue weight is going to remain the same at 900 pounds, but the gross towing capacity will increase to 8,000 pounds. A weight distribution system takes the weight that is loaded here on the back, that typically goes on your rear axle and helps redistribute the weight so it is more even between your front and rear axle.

And this can help restore lost breaking and handling performance that you would get due to the geometry offset of having all the weight towards the back.And now I've got some measurements for you to help you when deciding on accessories. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube, it measures about 15 inches. This is important when determining if you need to drop, rise or raise shank on any of your accessories. In front of the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, it measures about three inches. This is important when determining if any of your folding accessories can be placed in the upright storage position without contacting the bumper.Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go over the installation together so you can have the confidence to do it at home.

We're beginning our installation underneath the vehicle. If you have a spare tire on your vehicle, you'll want to lower that down first to give you enough clearance to get your hitch up. Not all of your MDX models are going to have a spare tire, it's going to vary depending upon your trim package, so if you don't have one, you can join us from here, if not lower your spare tire down first, and then we'll get back along.You'll find three weld nuts located on each side of the bottom of your frame. We're going to use some spray lubricant inside of each of those weld nuts and a bristled brush to clean those out. This will just make it easier to install all of our hardware and make sure nothing gets caught up when we're trying to do the install.

If you need a bristle brush, you can pick one up here at etrailer.com. And now with an extra set of hands, we'll lift our hitch into position. You want to line the holes up to your hitch, to the weld nuts located in the bottom of the frame.We'll then take the bolts that come in our kit, place a conical tooth washer on it with the teeth facing up towards our hitch and away from the head of the bolt and thread it into the weld nut in the bottom of the frame. Once you've got one started on each side, the hitch will hold itself up, making it easier to install the rest of your hardware. We can now go back and tighten down all of our hardware using a 7/8 inch socket. We can now go back and torque all of our hardware to the specifications found in our instructions.
