Older dogs can be stiff and sore from arthritis, but on occasion will act "off balance" especially to one side. They also will act lost and completely out of character. This syndrome used to be called old dog vestibular syndrome but now diagnostics like the MRI have identified as a stroke. Others causes are ear infections, brain infections, and tumors.
