Extended ACL Configuration – Description
An Extended Access Control List (ACL) is used to control network traffic by filtering packets based on multiple criteria, including source IP address, destination IP address, protocol type (TCP, UDP, ICMP), and specific port numbers. Unlike standard ACLs, extended ACLs provide granular traffic control, allowing administrators to permit or deny traffic for specific applications or services.
Extended ACLs are typically placed close to the source of the traffic to prevent unnecessary traffic from traversing the network. They are commonly used to enhance network security, traffic management, and policy enforcement.
Key characteristics:
1.Filters by source and destination IP
2.Supports protocol and port-level control
3.Provides fine-grained access control
4.Applied inbound or outbound on router interfaces
