1066 is a defining year in English History - it changed England, Britain (and the world) forever.
It was the year of 3 crowned kings of England and 3 great battles.
It saw the last great viking invasion of England and also the last successful invasion of mainland England by a foreign power.
Three great warlords vied for the throne of England - Harold Godwinson, Harald Hardrada and William The Conqueror.
Three fearsome battles:
The Battle of Fulford
The Battle of Stamford Bridge
The Battle of Hastings.
The Battle of Hastings saw Harold Godwinson (now Harold II of England) defeated by William of Normandy.
The Battle of Hastings ushered in the Norman conquest of England.
The Norman conquest of 1066 saw the greatest redistribution of land in the history of England. Within 20 years, William The Conqueror's Norman and French supporters had taken almost every English estate and introduced European feudalism into England.

My name is Chris Green ("The History Chap") and I am on a mission to share the amazing history of Britain so that we can appreciate where we have come from and why we are here.
History should not be stuffy or a long list of dates or kings & queens.
So rather than lectures or Youtube animations, I tell stories that bring the past to life.
My aim is to be chat as if I were having a coffee or meal with you. Jean in Maryland, USA recently wrote: "Chris, is the history teacher I wish I had at school!"
Just for the record, I do have a history degree and continue to have a passion for the subject I studied.
