"Berlin" is the sixth track from Madilyn Crossland's debut songwriting demo, These Walls.
If you never let anyone in, you can't let them hurt you, right? This song is about putting up walls to protect yourself from heartbreak.
Lyrics:
I guess I should have seen this coming
I’ve been hurt like this before
And though you may have won the battle,
I will not let you win the war
This heart of mine must be protected
And so I’m gonna build a fence
And if I let you tear my walls down,
I lose all of my common sense
My heart is not yours, you can’t take it home
I built up a barricade of skin and bone
I won’t let you in, I’ll stay in Berlin
And these walls, they won’t come down
I never wanted to be broken,
But things don’t always go as planned
You know they say “better safe than sorry”
I think I finally understand
It’s cold outside, I hope you’re freezing
So you won’t try to knock me down
And so I’ll build my walls even higher
And keep my feet upon the ground
My heart is not yours, you can’t take it home
I built up a barricade of skin and bone
I won’t let you in, I’ll stay in Berlin
And these walls, they won’t come down
It’s funny how a great big wall
Can make you feel so damn small
I can’t get out, but you can’t get in
And so I’ll stay inside Berlin
My heart is not yours, you can’t take it home
I built up a barricade of skin and bone
I won’t let you in, I’ll stay in Berlin
And these walls, they won’t come down
And these walls, they won’t come down
And these walls, they won’t come down
