🔍 Part 7: Using the selection tools
In this seventh episode, we demonstrate what the two main selection tools are for pattern making in adobe illustrator. You’ll be using them a lot, to draft and adapt basic blocks, so its good to understand what they do early on.

Selection tool:
The selection tool is used to select entire objects, including multiple objects which are grouped together. Click an object to select it you can then drag to move the selected object to a different location. To select multiple objects that are not grouped hold SHIFT on your keyboard and click separate objects one at a time or drag a marquee around multiple objects. Its keyboard shortcut is “V”.

Direct Selection tool:
The direct selection tool lets you select specific points or lines within an object

Select an object to view all of its anchor points and line segments.
Click an anchor point or line to select it, or SHIFT + click to select multiple anchor points, line segments or both. Once selected you can move those points by dragging or nudging with the arrow keys.
