Byzantine and Znamenny chant comparison. The Byzantine version was transcribed from 13th century manuscripts. Than it was compared with Kyiv Rus' 12th century manuscript. Thus the Slavonic version of Byzantine chant was reconstructed. Than it was compared with 16th century Znamenny chant. On this video I perform the Kyiv Znamenny version from 17th century Hirmologion. I added the Glossolalia "Habuva" which was written in 15-16th century manuscripts. You can see the pictures in which I circled the hieroglific indication of melismatic formlas written in Coislin and "Proto-Znamenny" notation.
Mode 2
When the transgressors nailed Thee, O Lord of glory, onto the Cross, Thou didst cry aloud to them: ‘How have I grieved you? Or angered you? Before Me, who hath delivered you from tribulations? And how do ye now repay Me? Ye have given Me evil For good: in return for the pillar of fire, ye have nailed Me onto the Cross; in return for the cloud in the wilderness, ye have dug a grave for Me. Instead of manna, ye have given Me gall; instead of water, ye have given Me vinegar to drink. Henceforth I shall call the Gentiles, and they shall glorify Me together with the Father and the Holy Spirit.
