The Knowledge Technologies for Democracy project (KT4D) argues that current regulatory frameworks, such as the AI Act and the Digital Services Act, do not adequately account for cultural risks or how AI technologies affect public trust, participation, and collective sense-making.
In order to bring the culture’s role in the heated debate around AI and policy making in the era of fast-paced technological development, the KT4D project hosted a special policy workshop on 8 May 2025 to gather feedback on the role of culture in AI and Knowledge Technologies, based on the Culture’s Role in Navigating Technological Change publication. The aim was to engage directly with policymakers only on how cultural factors influence the risks and impacts of AI, and how policy frameworks could better reflect democratic values and public expectations.
