How to Beat GRAND MOTHER SILK | Hollow Knight Silksong Boss Fight Explained

It’s time to break down Grand Mother Silk — yes, spelled with a space — a climactic boss fight in Silksong. She floats above the arena with no contact damage, but her needle-based attacks, silk webs, and spike summons make this battle tricky. My setup here is Hunter’s Crest for maximum needle DPS, Sharpdart for safely dodging her toughest moves (especially Silk Web), and Volt Filament plus Long Claw and Pollip Pouch for consistent passive value. For throwables, Cogflies are always useful, while Volt Vessel shines during phase transitions.

Her moveset revolves around needle patterns. Needle Flurry fires 3–6 needles in horizontal or vertical sequences, chaining faster as the fight progresses. Needle Rain drops all six needles vertically, while Claw Swipe sweeps the entire arena before following with another needle drop. At low HP, avoiding every gap gets overwhelming — this is where Sharpdart trivializes chaos and keeps you safe while dealing damage. The deadliest move is Silk Web, glowing lines that snare Hornet and trigger a 3-damage blast if touched. Thankfully, Sharpdart’s i-frames bypass this too.

At around 60% HP she transitions into Phase 2 with Rock Falls, thick silk strands that summon falling debris. Later she adds Spike Pull, spawning thin silk lines that bring spikes into the arena — destroy them quickly or risk extra chip damage. From here, her speed ramps up but never to Radiance levels, making her manageable with patience and positioning.

The key strategy is to stay close under her to keep visibility on attacks, punish with needle strikes and skills, and use Sharpdart liberally to bypass dangerous patterns. Compared to Radiance, this fight is more forgiving, and with the tools you’ve unlocked by now, victory is well within reach.
