The original access trail to the top of Mt.Pilchuck was constructed in 1909 along Black Creek up around Pinnacle Lake to the summit. A more direct seven mile trail to the summit was constructed around 1909 - 1910 starting in Turlo (near Robe) and crossed the Stillaguamish River by a hand cable car.
The first lookout atop Mt. Pilchuck in 1918 consisted of only a tent and firefinder. A tramline was built in 1920
1921 to haul up supplies for the first lookout building.
In 1921 the top portion of Mt. Pilchuck was blasted off to provide a level site and construction began on a U. S.
Forest Service D-5 style lookout, a 12' x 12' building with a cupola.
A timberline log cabin was erected at the lower end of the tramline for dropping off supplies and equipment for the lookout. Prior to the installation of the phone lines to the ranger station around 1919-1920, communication from lookout to lookout was accomplished by Heliograph.#Mountain#Hiking
