The story of Edge Innovate, told by MD, Darragh Cullen at its manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland, in this exclusive interview with Peter Haddock.

With a focus on people, skills and long-term partnerships with 'can do' suppliers, Edge Innovate has gone from being a subcontract manufacturing business to a leading global material handling equipment supplier, and Darragh has been there for the transformative journey.

Darragh: "We started Edge Innovate because, in the 2008 recession, our subcontract work dried up, so we recognised the talented people we had in our business and set about designing and selling our own products.

"At that point, we looked to our supply chain to support our ambitions to be a global player in the market. And it was at this point we identified local suppliers that had a 'can and will do' attitude to supporting us.

"It was also the time we started our relationship with Caterpillar engines and their local dealer Finning UK and Ireland as we recognised that no one would buy our products without a globally recognised engine brand. And you don't get any bigger than Caterpillar."

Today, Edge Innovate supplies a whole range of material handling equipment from shredders to screeners, stackers and separators all over the globe, designed and manufactured in its end-to-end factory in Dungannon.

Darrah: "We are all about quality and being flexible, so we can design and manufacture products that meet our customers' challenges. And our continued investment enables us to cut components from sheet metal, weld them together in our fabrication workshop, treat and paint them before assembling and testing, all in one location.

"Being in control of the whole process makes a big difference as we are also able to respond to specific needs from our customers, which is important when you are exporting all over the globe."

"And it's our relationship with Caterpillar and its dealers which is essential to keeping our equipment running as we have worked with them from the start of the design process from Stage III all the way to Stage V engines and the technology supporting them."
