Trains At The Flood Wall, Norfolk Southern Trains With DPUs In Ironton, Ohio & West Virginia Trains

Trains At The Flood Wall Railroad Crossing In Ireton, Ohio. These Norfolk Southern Trains Cross A Blind Level Railroad Crossing Along The Ohio River. This is where the fast coal train covered me in coal dust last year. Also, Fort Gay, West Virginia intermodal train booking over a railroad crossing in the middle of town with a look at the abandoned buildings. These 4 trains are all on the same Norfolk Southern RR line. CSX is just across the river from Ireton in Kentucky.
This railroad crossing is a little tricky when you are driving from the river back into town. The flood wall obstructs the view but the crossing does have bells, gates and lights. The old train station is also seen and there is a caboose on display next to it. Listen to the DPU in the middle of the train as it earns its keep.
Next we go to Fort Gay, West Virginia just a short distance railroad east of Ireton. There are a lot of abandoned buildings in town next to the tracks. I don't know why they are all boarded up and closed. The gas station and stores look like they have a great location on the main road with the tracks right there. Louisa, Kentucky is just across the Big Sandy River from Fort Gay and it has a CSX line that runs through Appalachia and used to be a major coal route. There are still some coal trains on it but not like it used to be in the 70s, 80s and 90s. My dad is from Floyd Count, Kentucky and I spent a summer living there in West Prestonsburg to work with the health department and as a volunteer firefighter.
Best frequencies for these trains are 161.250 for Norfolk Southern, 452.9375 for EOT and 160.230 for CSX. Of course there are other frequencies for switching, maintenance etc. Another good frequency is 160.275 for Norfolk Southern while they are switching the Portsmouth, Ohio yards. There is a weak repeater on this frequency. On the west side of Portsmouth the best frequency is 161.190.
This is the Heartland Corridor that runs from Norfolk, Virginia to Chicago and is considered running railroad east and west.
