Janus was the Roman god of doorways, transitions, and new beginnings. He had two faces—one watching what had come before, the other seeing what lay ahead. Temples to Janus were placed at city gates and thresholds—symbols of change and control. He was invoked at the start of wars, harvests, and every Roman year. Even the month January is named after him—Janus, the guardian of time’s turning point. Why Janus had two faces—and what they symbolized — His two faces represented duality: past and future, old and new, war and peace. He stood at the threshold of every choice, reminding Romans that all endings are beginnings. Show some love with a like, and join us by subscribing!
