This was my one hour pilot for the Tomorrows Stars Today concept to showcase local talent in performance prior to their eventual stardom. Videotape copyright reserved. This show was finished January 1981 just before the launch of MTV and well prior to the success of unsigned music talent shows like American Idol. Taped on 1-inch type C color with stereo audio in my shared 2nd floor 10,000 sq. ft. rehearsal loft. It was located in the Fort Point Channel neighborhood of Boston only a few hundred yards from the sight of the pre-US Revolution 1773 Boston Tea Party.
"The Boston Wharf Company constructed most of the buildings 1836 to 1882 for the manufacture and storage of a wide variety of goods, beginning with sugar and molasses and branching out into the wool trade by the end of the 19th century." I believe the building was sold and later torn down by McCourt Construction who chose to build a park or a parking garage for their clients.
Note, as part of the "set decoration", the two Haitian metal wall sculptures on the wall from my adjacent The Haiti Experience art gallery. Also note the early Advent VideoBeam 1000 Projection System broadcasting the live feed from the cameras. We used the two different size Advents in a division called Vid-disco where we projected live cameras of disco dancers in nightclubs, special record store presentations of Record company pre-MTV videos and Super Bowl parties.
Our host was the popular daytime WCOZ -FM programmer, Lesley Palmiter, where she also hosted a Sunday night program “The Boston Beat” which showcased local bands and released two compilation albums. / 973984848104934
