Witnessing my first Yakshagana, a traditional art form from Dakshina Kannada, in Byndoor. This is a slightly different variant, native to Udupi, called "Badagu-thittu".
Despite a restless crowd and the distractions of mobile phones, the traveling troupe “Durga Parameswari” managed to captivate the audience with their spirited performance.
The theme seemed to revolve around the story of Ayyappa, coinciding with the start of the Sabarimala season. A typical Yakshagana performance begins late evening and continues into the early morning hours, much like the traditional Kathakali or Theyyam from neighboring Kerala.
