Erin Carson wants her 7-year-old son, Benny, to walk home alone from the school bus. But her NJ school district won’t let that 900-feet walk happen. It requires children under the third grade to have an adult meet them at the bus. The policy contradicts Carson’s belief in the “free range” style of parenting–allowing kids to walk around town, to go to the store, to play in the park, without an adult hovering over them. The free range debate is current, and Utah passed a law supporting it last week. VICE News sent Michael Moynihan to learn more.
