Today on Manual Theory, we do a deep dive "Expectation vs. Reality" on my newly acquired, "M30B35-swapped" BMW E24 635CSi. After cleaning it up and living with it for a few weeks, I’m walking you through the good, the bad, and the confusing.
The listing promised a fully swapped M30B35 engine, but after digging into the engine bay - and digging through a mysterious box of parts found in the trunk - I realized the previous owner stopped 80% of the way through.
In this video:
Exterior Walkaround: The paint looks incredible, but the "new" tires were a bit of a stretch.
Interior Review: Evaluating the classic BMW Sport Seats (and their cracks), the broken blower motor switch, and the "flappy" shifter feel.
The Engine Bay: Investigating the M30B35 swap claims.
The Twist: Validating the cylinder head numbers vs. the crank pulley and finding the "smoking gun" in the trunk that proves this car is still running Motronic 1.0.
Now the question is: Do I finish the swap to Motronic 1.3 to unlock the full potential of this M30B35? Let me know what you think in the comments?
