7 Slow Blues Licks You Should Know | (With TAB)

How’s it going fellow guitar slinger?! Dave here, and welcome to to Guitar Slinger Academy, where it’s all about helping you, as best I possibly can, to take your guitar playing to the next level.

So this is another blues lick lesson. And in this one we’re going to be focusing more on some licks that you can play over a slow blues progression.

All the licks are played In the key of B. Obviously they’re all fully transposable into any key you want, but I had to choose one and I chose B…B for blues I guess.

The chord progression is your standard I IV V blues using dominant 7th chords. So our 1 chord is B dominant 7 (or B7). Our 2 chord is E7, and our 5 chord is F#7.

All the licks generally stay within the context of the B minor and major pentatonic scales. They make use of various positions on the neck. Some stay In one position and others weave in and out so a knowledge of the 5 positions of the major and minor pentatonic scales Is going to be extremely useful to you because we want be able to play these licks In any key right? not just B.

Like I always say in these lessons, learn all the licks if you can but also use them as a means to come up with some of your own licks. The ones I’m showing you in this video are just a few of my personal go to blues licks that I tend to use and play around with a lot. They also Include some of the techniques and phrasing concepts that I think are important to every guitar player so don’t be afraid to tear them apart and create some new ideas of your own, that’s what It’s all about at the end of the day.
