Denbigh East Wave | The Winter Series 2025

Welcome to the second round of the UK Junior Gliding Winter Series, held from the 7th to 9th February 2025 at the stunning Lleweni Parc, Denbigh! With a massive turnout of over 80 participants, 15 gliders, and heaps of enthusiasm, this event was nothing short of awesome.

On Day 1, we were greeted with Eastly wave soaring up to a FL195, reaching temperatures as low as -39°C—something I've never experienced before! It was an intense, freezing challenge, but the excitement of flying at such high altitudes made it all worth it. The cold was brutal, but the views and the soaring conditions were absolutely worth every second.

Day 2 took things to another level as we climbed through thick, 8/8ths cloud from a mere 1200ft. Once we punched through the cloud layer, we were met with breathtaking lenticular clouds that hovered over the west side of Snowdonia. The beauty of the landscape was awe-inspiring as we raced through the clouds, making our way to a four-ship final glide, racing the sunset back home. (This appears to be a theme)
