After the Bohemian Revolt collapsed in 1620, major fighting returned to Bohemia mainly during the Swedish phase of the war. In 1631, Saxon troops briefly occupied Prague before being pushed out by Imperial forces. Swedish king Gustavus Adolphus advanced toward Bohemia after Breitenfeld but did not hold territory there for long. Through the early 1630s, Swedish and Saxon armies launched several incursions and raids into Bohemia, but Imperial control remained firm. In the 1640s, Swedish general Torstenson led fast campaigns through northern and eastern Bohemia. These movements pressured the region but did not result in major territorial gains. In 1648, Swedish general Königsmarck launched a surprise attack on Prague. The Swedes captured the Lesser Town and the Castle area. However, Prague’s Old Town and New Town resisted successfully with the help of citizens and students. This Battle of Prague in 1648 became the final major action of the Thirty Years’ War.
