I needed to get heat into the garage, but I wasn’t about to spend a small fortune on a double-wall chimney kit. The through-the-wall section alone was over $500 — so we built our own setup for less than that total.
In this video, we used a 6-inch schedule 10 steel sprinkler pipe and made our own brackets, supports, and even a custom thimble. The coolest part? The thimble started as a wet cylinder from a Cummins Big Cam engine that we machined down to fit perfectly through the wall.
This isn’t a how-to, it’s more of a look at what can be done if you’re trying to heat your shop or garage without breaking the bank. It’s a solid option if you’ve got tools, some know-how, and a bit of creativity.
