How to properly install senders in your GM LS or Vortec engine when installing aftermarket gauges. Why do we need senders when running a PCM? Gauges are your insurance policy against damage to your engine from overheating, low oil pressure and over-revving. Standalone instruments operate on their own and can monitor all of your vitals separately from the PCM so you know for sure what's going on in your engine. The senders come with the kit and no need for modules or divers, spend the 15-20 minutes and you are all set.
Why can't I use the senders in the engine already? Gauges always need the matching sender to operate properly. They typically include the proper sender to read properly. the trouble with using the original senders are: 1. Who know what sender is actually in there as they vary from year to year and make/model. Do you have a sender or a switch? A switch will not operate a gauge. What sender do you have and do you know the resistance range? These all reasons to avoid OE senders and make sure you get the right information on your dash.
