ABOUT THIS LIVESTREAM
Virtual Railfan’s live train cameras at Amherst, Ohio, are located at the historic Nordson Depot, a renovated 1905 passenger station donated to the City of Amherst, overlooking the Norfolk Southern Chicago Line at milepost 213. Hosted by the City of Amherst, these cameras capture the relentless pace of one of NS's busiest corridors — about 50 freights daily, including intermodals and manifests — plus Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited and Floridian slicing through northern Ohio.

The depot, built by the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway (later New York Central), served passengers until 1963 and was restored after Nordson Corporation's 2021 donation, now featuring senior activities and Nordson Depot Park with playgrounds. Formerly the "Water Level Route," the railroad began operating in 1853 and was upgraded to four tracks in the early 1900s by LS&MS. Today, the Chicago Line is double-tracked, with modernized signaling and dispatching allowing Norfolk Southern to operate efficiently with just two mains. In the 21st Century, the Chicago Line remains a freight powerhouse connecting Chicago to Cleveland.
