Tamil Nadu’s most disturbing and high-profile crime investigations — the Pollachi sextortion case, which shook the town of Pollachi and the entire state in 2019.

The case came to light when a 19-year-old college student from Pollachi, Coimbatore district, bravely came forward in February 2019, revealing that she was harassed and filmed without consent by a group of men inside a moving car. What followed was a chain reaction of similar survivor testimonies, ultimately exposing a sextortion racket that had been operating in silence since 2013.

The key accused—Thirunavukkarasu, Sabarirajan, Vasanthakumar, Babu, Senthil, Satheesh, Vivekanandan, Mohan, and Manivannan—allegedly used social media to lure victims, secretly recorded videos, and used them to threaten and manipulate. The videos were used as tools of control and extortion.

The Tamil Nadu government handed the investigation over to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) in March 2019 due to the public outrage and the case’s complexity.

Finally, after years of legal proceedings, on May 13–14, 2025, the Coimbatore Mahila Court found all nine accused guilty, sentencing them to life imprisonment till natural death. The court also ordered a compensation of ₹85 lakhs to be distributed among eight survivors, bringing some justice after a long fight.
