"It's a concrete fantasy, an architect's dream, a planner's delight and the pride of its ultra-modern citizens."
With its underpasses, pedestrian footbridges and striking brutalist architecture, Cumbernauld has a claim to being the most modern town in Britain, but even in this shining monument to modernity, an ancient form of levy - the feu - keeps homeowners shackled to the past.
Nationwide's Jack Pizzey investigates this antiquated, feudal tax, and speaks to some of the 'vassals' who are required to pay it.
Clip taken from Nationwide, originally broadcast on BBC One, Tuesday 18 August, 1970.
