This conference bought together a number of key speakers in the world of leadership from Defence and the civilian sectors.
Introduction - Lieutenant Colonel Langley Sharp MBE - SO1 Leadership
Chief of the General Staff (Strategic Overview) - General Sir Mark Carleton-Smith is the professional head of the British Army and has held this position since 2018. He will open the Remote Leadership Conference and set the strategic context for the day.
Dr. Keith Grint (Historical Context of Leading Remotely) - Professor Emeritus at Warwick University and has held various academic positions at Brunel, Cranfield and Oxford Universities. He will give historical examples of the British Army leading remotely, using the 1944 Normandy campaign as a framework.
Major General Nick Borton DSO MBE (Leading a Dispersed Division) - The Chief of Staff Operations at the Permanent Joint Headquarters. He will talk about his experience in leading remotely at the tactical and operational level, focusing on his time as the General Officer Commanding 3rd (United Kingdom) Division.
Major General Tom Copinger-Symes CBE (Digitisation in the MOD) - Director Military Digitisation for the Ministery of Defence. He will be discussing Remote Leadership in a Whole Force Environment
Siobhan Sheridan (One Team: Challenges of leading a Dispersed Workforce) - Siobhan Sheridan is the Director for Civilian Human Resources for the Ministry of Defence and is responsible for a workforce of 57,000 people. She will be talking about the challenges of leading a dispersed civil service workforce.
Stanley McChrystal (Leading Remotely - 'Teams of Teams') - A retired US 4 Star General, former JSOC Commander in Iraq and author of the critically acclaimed ‘Team of Teams.’ He will share his ‘team of teams’ strategy and talk about his experience of leading thousands of soldiers across the globe in the fight against terrorism. Dr Sara Perry (Human Impact on Working and Leading Remotely) - An Associate Professor of Management at Baylor University and has been consulted for her expertise on remote work by the New York Times, Fast Company and numerous other press outlets. She will be highlighting the human impact on working and leading remotely.
Kris Wadia (Remote Leadership Lessons from the Business world) - Global Executive and Board Director with a proven track record of successful launches, rapid growth, and transformation of businesses at scale world-wide across multiple industries. Kris will share nine strategies for Remote Leadership success and also present the results of a ground-breaking survey into how skills obtained during Army service support post-Army employment and independent business ownership. Matthew Syed (How to Create High Performing Teams in a Remote Working Environment) - World-renowned author and highly acclaimed speaker in the field of high performance. He has written six bestselling books about mindset and high-performance, including ‘Bounce’ and ‘Black Box Thinking.’ He will be speaking about how to produce high-performing teams in a remote environment.
