Now that the final season of #Snowpiercer is on its way, there are a few questions and plot holes that I want to discuss and see if there are any answers to them. In this video, I will go over how #MelanieCavill was able to become Head of Hospitality and fool the whole train for seven years.
At the beginning of the Freeze, Melanie made the difficult choice of leaving the terminal early, abandoning her daughter, and leaving Joseph Wilford trackside to die. And Bennett Knox was no help and basically peer pressured her into the decision, but that decision did actually end up saving Melanie's daughter.
Alex wasn't onboard when the train left, and neither were a lot of ticketed passengers. Which means some employees had to be some of them. It's unknown if the real head of hospitality was onboard, or who it was. It could have been Ruth. She and Wilford were friends before the Freeze, so she could have the head of hospitality and was told to step down by Melanie. This is possible because if Ruth was good friends with Wilford, she likely knew who Melanie was and how much influence she had with Wilford. Melanie was Wilford's protégé for most of her life, and she likely would have inherited his empire after he died or retired. This is one reason why everyone in a position of power on the train believed whatever she said. Even though she could handle any engineering problems that Snowpiecer had, she also had to handle all the social problems as well.
Melanie kept her inner circle as small as possible due to a lack of trust in others, such as Commander Grey who was basically Wilford's best friend. Ben was there in the Engine with Melanie. Jinju Seong was probably Melanie's best friend back before the Freeze, they might have grown up in the same small town. She was just an agricultural officer and not the head of the department. Melanie probably hooked Jinju up with the job. And Javi was in the bathroom and only noticed that Wilford was gone after two days after departure. Melanie and Ben likely had no intention of telling Javi as he had only been a Wilford Industries Engineer for a few years and was one of his supporters. Melanie likely told Javi what Wilford did to the geneticists she tried to bring on the train. This is what probably got Javi on her side. He probably saw Melanie in the Hospitality uniform and thought that was suspicious as she was an engineer and not a Hospitality representative.
All of Melanie's Hospitality experience was as a guest while she was staying at hotels, taking planes, and all that when she was with Wilford for business trips and whatever else. Melanie likely picked up how to be a good Hospitality representative from those trips. I also assume there are Hospitality rulebooks, guidebooks, and manuals on Snowpiercer so she found them and read everything she could so she could pass as a Hospitality representative. If the head of hospitality wasn't on board during departure, Melanie likely took over the position in the first few days. This would be suspicious to anyone who knew Melanie prior to the Freeze, such as Ruth, Miss Audrey, Commander Grey, and Boki. Melanie might have spun a story about how she wanted to leave engineering because of the loss of her daughter and people probably bought it. Or maybe she said Wilford needed someone he trusted handling and reporting on the social issues of the train while he was in the Engine. Both of these make sense and any mindless Wilford supporters would have believed her especially if they weren't good friends with Wilford like Roche, who probably did meet Melanie and saw her around Wilford all the time, he likely knew how far up the ranks she was at Wilford Industries.
Miss Audrey may have known Wilford wasn't on the train all along. She could have questioned everything and tried to investigate why Joseph wouldn't see her. Audrey was Joesph's lover and escort after all. She went along with Melanie's lies because of Joesph's corruption. She wanted to be free of him. Her best choice was not to question Melanie and try not to think of Joesph while she was trying to help the passengers get through their grief and losses from the Freeze.
In conclusion, Melanie got away with everything because of her rank at Wilford Industries and how much influence she had with Joseph before the Freeze.
How do you think Melanie tricked everyone? What are your thoughts?
