In today’s video, we wander around Yamba and explore Main Beach and the lighthouse. We visit Angourie and check out the Beaches and the Blue and Green Pools. We also go to the Farmers Market and Turners Beach, see dolphins along the Breakwater and go to Pippi Beach.
Yamba’s town centre has a great selection of cafes, restaurants, boutique stores, and surf shops to browse in.
Yamba is known for its exceptional beaches, which are ideal for swimming and surfing.
Main beach is located on the southern side of the Clarence River lighthouse, this lovely sandy beach is home to one of NSW’s oldest surf lifesaving clubs.
At the southern end of the beach, built into the rocky outcrop, is a 33-metre saltwater rock pool, that is a popular spot for swimming and relaxing under the pandanus trees.
Yamba’s Clarence River Lighthouse is located on top of Pilot Hill. This 18-metre-high lighthouse was built in 1955 to replace the original lighthouse that was built in 1879.
A replica of the 1879 lighthouse was built by volunteers and now houses the community radio station.
Five kilometres south of Yamba is the coastal village of Angourie, which is a famous surfing destination.
We visited the Angourie Pools, a natural saltwater rock pool and the blue and green freshwater pools. It’s a short walk from the Crescent parking area down the path to the pools.
The first pool you come to is the Blue Pool, with lovely shady trees around it and easy access into the water.
The Blue and Green Pools were created when two quarries filled with water from an underground spring. These pools are less than 20 metres from the ocean and are approximately 15–20 metres deep.
Then, a short walk brings you to the natural saltwater rock pool. All of these pools are very popular swimming spots in Summer.
From the saltwater rock pool you can walk about 100 metres along the beach to the Green Pool, this pool is surrounded by higher rock walls.
The Yamba Farmers Market is held every Wednesday from 7.00 am to 11.00 am at the Whiting Beach Carpark.
The 45 permanent stallholders are local and regional farmers, makers, bakers, artisans and producers, and there is a great selection of fresh produce.
On the northern side of the lighthouse is Turner's Beach and the break walls.
Turner’s Beach is a popular swimming and surfing beach and it is patrolled by surf lifesavers in the summer months.
From Turners Beach you can walk along the breakwater, where the Clarence River meets the Ocean. This is also a great spot to watch the dolphins.
Pippi Beach is a long white sandy beach, that is popular for walking, surfing and swimming.
This beautiful beach stretches for 2.5 kilometres so there's plenty of room for everyone.
