Lim Goh Tong faced numerous challenges in acquiring the necessary land for his project. However, through determination and persistence, he managed to secure a concession from the Pahang state government to develop a resort on the mountains.

3. Construction:
Construction of Genting Highlands started in 1964. The challenging terrain and the need to clear dense forests made the construction process arduous. Roads were built, infrastructure was developed, and a hotel named Highlands Hotel was constructed.

4. Casino License:
Lim Goh Tong realized that the success of the resort would depend on attracting visitors from both Malaysia and neighboring countries. To achieve this, he obtained a license to operate a casino in Genting Highlands. The casino opened its doors in 1971 and became a significant attraction for tourists.

5. Expansion and Development:
Following the success of the casino, Genting Highlands continued to expand. The resort added more hotels, such as Resort Hotel and Genting Hotel, to accommodate the growing number of visitors. The development also included the establishment of recreational facilities, golf courses, and a theme park called Genting Theme Park.

6. Genting Theme Park and Entertainment:
Genting Theme Park, later renamed Genting Outdoor Theme Park, offered a variety of rides and attractions, including roller coasters, water slides, and shows. It became a popular destination for families and thrill-seekers. In 2013, the outdoor theme park closed for redevelopment and is now known as Genting SkyWorlds, which is expected to open in the near future.

7. Integrated Resort:
In recent years, Genting Highlands transformed into an integrated resort complex called Resorts World Genting. It encompasses multiple hotels, a wide range of dining options, shopping malls, indoor and outdoor theme parks, a concert arena, a convention center, and other entertainment venues. The resort aims to provide a comprehensive experience for visitors.

Today, Genting Highlands is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Malaysia, attracting millions of visitors each year. Its cool climate, scenic beauty, and diverse entertainment options continue to make it a popular choice for both locals and international tourists seeking leisure and entertainment.
