In this video, I dive into Cosmic Cruncher, a classic Pac-Man variant featuring different graphics but the same overall concept. The game requires 8K RAM in bank 5 and a joystick, and delivers a unique twist on the iconic maze-chase formula.
🎨 GRAPHICS:
The visuals range from fair to average, with big blocky sprites and noticeable flickering—especially on the four characters chasing you. It’s not the prettiest game out there, and at times it’s almost ugly, but still charming in that retro way.
🔊 SOUND:
Surprisingly decent! The Pac-Man theme is almost recognizable, which is impressive for a legalized remake. With a bit more polish, the sounds could have been fully accurate.
🎮 GAMEPLAY:
This is where Cosmic Cruncher shines. Despite rough graphics, the gameplay feels solid and surprisingly fun. With improved character graphics (like those from Jelly Monsters), this could have been an excellent Pac-Man port.
⭐ OVERALL:
A mixed experience—a game that could have been great, but never fully got there. Still, it’s an interesting piece of retro gaming history and definitely worth a look!
