Meet Shabana Bano, President of the Risha Chikankari Association. She turned her passion for Chikankari embroidery into a powerful movement to empower women artisans in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Formed under the AIACA and Capri Loans-supported project "To Boost the Cultural Economy in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCR (START)," this association is transforming lives.
Shabana learned the art of chikankari not for herself, but to uplift other women around her. With guidance and support from AIACA and Capri, the Risha Artisans received skill development training, market exposure, and life-changing opportunities.
One milestone moment? When the UP Warriorz Women’s Cricket Team partnered with AIACA and Capri for custom hand-embroidered merchandise! The Risha women artisans embroidered beautiful chikankari t-shirts for the team — a proud, path-breaking project that doubled their income and boosted their confidence.
Watch this full story of resilience, tradition, and transformation, and see how heritage crafts like chikankari are not just art — they’re a livelihood, a sisterhood, and a future.
