What if a deodorant worked so well, it could stop a child from being bullied, improve sex lives, treat the symptom of a medically incurable disease, change your life? This is the story of that deodorant.

My name is Shannon Klingman and I'm a baking enthusiast, a gardener, an aspiring beekeeper, a wife, mother of five and an OB GYN. 10 years ago during my residency, I saw a lot of patients that had concerns about vaginal odor and they'd been told by other doctors that they required antibiotics. I felt like we were over-treating women. This is just normal day-to-day odor. If you're leading a full life, you are highly active, you are just prone to having odor because you're human. You treat it with a deodorant, but the problem was there wasn't a deodorant on the market safe enough to use anywhere on the body, so equipped with my KitchenAid and some pH strips, I whipped up my own natural deodorant right there in my kitchen. I knew that this deodorant had to be aluminum-free, artificial fragrance oil-free and baking soda-free. I made my first prototype and it failed miserably, so I made another one, and another one, and another one and eventually I landed on a deodorant prototype that seemed really promising.

My sister agreed to be my deodorant guinea pig and she said that it made her lady parts smell like nothing at all. It worked. So then I thought, if it works for stinky private parts, why not stinky armpits, and why not stinky feet? So I tried it on my husband, and I tried it on my kids little stinky feet and it was amazing. That's how Lume was born.

By this time, my husband and I were about to welcome another child. And when people ask me how many kids I have, I always pause because I have four children that I'm raising here on earth. But I have a daughter, Amy, who was born five years ago who only lived for two days. When we lost Amy, my world got really dark and I was having a hard time even feeling like I wanted to live. My kids were going to now know me before Amy and then they only know me after Amy and I felt sorry for them that I was their mother because I just was not able to rise above it. I either needed to get busy living for my family, or I needed to just let go, and I chose to live. Lume gave me hope. It saved me. When Amy died, I lost myself. Lume helped me find myself again. It helped my children have a mother again. It helped me change the lives of others.
