Several factors lead to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), but identifying the actual culprit is crucial. Among the top contributors are uncontrolled blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels. Many individuals unknowingly damage their kidneys through everyday routines. In this video, we’ll highlight how frequent use of antibiotics, pain relievers, and certain diagnostic tests can silently push your kidneys toward failure.

𝟭. 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀
Over-the-counter painkillers, especially from the NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) category, are widely used for aches and pains. But for those with existing kidney concerns, these drugs can trigger a sudden decline in kidney performance. Medications like Diclofenac and Nimesulide are hazardous. Repeated or long-term intake can exacerbate kidney damage.
𝟮. 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀
Some antibiotics—especially those with names ending in “-cin”—are known to be hard on the kidneys. Drugs such as Amikacin and Doxorubicin fall into this high-risk group. People with weakened kidneys should only take these under close medical guidance to avoid complications.

Certain diagnostic procedures may seem harmless, but can be harmful to kidney function. For example, DTPA scans, which evaluate kidney filtration, use iodine-based radioactive substances that may be toxic to the kidneys. These should not be done more than once every six months. Procedures like angioplasty, angiography, and ureteral stent placements often involve contrast agents, which can overburden already stressed kidneys.
