Exposure blending using luminosity masks - Sunrise at Lake Bled.

This morning I head over to the western side of Lake Bled, an area called Zaka. Using the Augmented Reality (AR) feature on Photopills I plot exactly where the sun will rise over the mountains in the background.

The one problem with photographing directly into the sunlight is that it creates a very high contrast scene. So foreground objects, like the island church here, become silhouetted. The only to bring out the detail is to take two exposures and exposure blend them in Photoshop.

In this video, I shoot the scene and then try out exposure blending using luminosity masks. In this case, I try out Lumenzia by Greg Benz, with impressive success.
