This is a long format video of a whitewater run in the Smith drainage in northern California. The SF Smith Kelsey run starts with a hike to the river along the SF Kelsey trail and keeps the average kayaker from doing this seldom seen section. The scenery is outstanding and unburned. The run is excellent at 6,000 cfs on the gage https://water.noaa.gov/gauges/11532500. With less than 6 k it is unlikely you will be able to run the main drop at the base of Island Rapid. Island rapid is a mandatory scout due to wood. There are frequently log jams on the right and large elevated full size trees center and left. Most paddlers will portage or partial portage island rapid. The rest of the run is high quality with clear water and dynamic features, followed by a two mile paddle out on class 2 to Steven's bridge.
