The world celebrates freedom — the freedom to do what you want, indulge what you feel, and escape every limit. But in this homily, Father Moses exposes the devastating truth behind that illusion.
When Christ says, “The lamp of the body is the eye,” He reveals that our desires — and what we consume — are not neutral. They either fill the soul with light or drown it in darkness. What we gaze at, tolerate, and entertain is forming who we are. Slowly. Invisibly. Eternally.
This homily confronts the lie that we can serve God while still serving our appetites, our comforts, or the culture. Father Moses names the crisis of modern man: we call ourselves free while living as slaves. Slaves to sin, to substances, to screens, to self. And worst of all — we believe we’re doing just fine.
But Christ offers a reversal. Not a cheap fix, but a real path: purify your inner eye, seek the Kingdom, and cultivate righteousness. Then — and only then — everything else will be added unto you.
