This song is about being influenced by an older person to become a bigot (or just a bad person in general), then slowly unlearning those beliefs. However, there's still hope that said person will improve themself, and still wanting to have a stable bond with them. That bond is difficult due to how they behaved or treated others, barely seeing or having communication with them, and becoming a mental wreck with memory issues. They only see the failures.

That person is barely around nowadays, and it even gets to a point where they're forgotten. That makes it difficult to have a clear perception of them. All that's left is the katana, the phrases, and a fuzzy portrait of their face
