Don't Be Held Hostage!

At any given time, we can be held hostage without realizing it. How are we held hostage and by whom?

Our weakest point is our mind and satan uses any opportunity to control and manipulate us through our thoughts and emotions. When he is successful, we are held as hostages by his deception and trickery.

Satan goes for any crack in the door to play mind games with us. He doesn't ultimately get to us through external troubles in illness, finances, relationships and so forth. Rather, he gets to us internally through our mind - how we think about those circumstances and how we process & react to those circumstances.

But Christ has given us the power to have the victory over every circumstance...by taking captive every one of our thoughts...and making each one obedient to Christ. We may not be able to change the situation, but we can change our perspective, attitude and mindset.

Apostle Paul teaches us in II Corinthians 10:3-5,

[3] For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. [4] The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. [5] We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Instead of thinking thoughts of defeat, fear, worry, self-pity, sorrow, hopelessness, anger, jealousy or doubt...we take those thoughts, which are fabricated by satan, and make them captive and toss them out.

Instead of falling victim to the lies and deceitfulness of satan, we gain control with the strength of the Holy Spirit and make our thoughts align with the truth of Christ. He sacrificed himself and nailed satan to the cross. He nailed sin, death, and deception to the cross. Christ won the victory for us.

We read in 1 John 3:8 that "The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work."
Christ has already defeated satan and has given us the power and authority through him to overcome.

Jesus tells us in Luke 10:19, "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."

God has given us the power to control our minds and emotions. Christ has given us the power and authority to demolish all arguments and pretenses that go against the eternal Word of God.

It is up to us to use that power and authority. In order to do so, we must be equipped with God's word, with which, we can extinguish every flaming arrow from satan.

We read in Ephesians 6:10-11, “...be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

So let us be on guard against the devil’s schemes that he wants to play in our minds. Let us nip every deceptive, negative, sinful thought in the bud and replace it with the truth of God's word. Let us fill our mind daily with God's word so there is no room for anything else besides His eternal truth and promises. When we do so, we are free! As Jesus teaches us in John 8:31-32,

[31] ...“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. [32] Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
