In Episode 16, Krishna educates us about Work Life Balance.
We also talk about Dhyan, wherein we are told that we can be ready for Dhyan, only after we’ve reached the state of internal peace. Dhyan is possible only when we are totally detached from the outside world, and totally focused on the Parmatma within our heart.
2 stages of Yoga are explained. The beginning stage, which is Ruruksha, wherein you work, you sacrifice and through work you progress on the spiritual path. This is achieved through the first 5 stages of the Ashtaanga Yoga, which is – Yamma (i.e. do’s), Niyamma (i.e. don’ts), Aasana, Pranayama, and Pratyahara.
The second one of Ruddha Yoga, where we progress from Pratyahara to Dharana, Dhyan and finally to Samadhi.
We are explained the importance of controlling our mind and befriending it. For anyone who achieves this, the super soul, which is Parmatma, is already reached. Such a person is in a state of tranquility. Mantra meditation is a good option of practicing this control. We have to be careful to ensure that the mind does not degrade into being an enemy !
We are also told about the difficult and strenuous prerequisites for Dhyan. A detailed set of guidelines are prescribed involving regulation of eating, recreation, working and sleeping habits. Balance is a very important characteristic for a Yogi.
And, this balanced work life, is very important for any meaningful work to take place.
We are realising this now in modern times, but the Gita taught this to us thousands of years back !!
