"What is 1 bit recording? Is recording at one bit better than 24 bit in gear like the Korg MR 2 field recorder?"

Jacob Schneider's Answer:

"The term 1-bit recording is related to a DSD recorder (Direct Stream Digital). More traditionally we record PCM (Pulse-code Modulation)( 44.1k 16bit) (192k 24 bit) etc. If you think of PCM it is more of a grid you have a select sample and a bit depth. In something like DSD you have a single stream of audio 2.8244 Mhz 1-bit. This means your sample rate is 64 times a standard CD and after every sample the bit rate can either go up or down 1bit. So because the sample rate is so high (2822400 samples per second) it makes for almost a continues signal or sine wave. In the world PCM you are chopping off some of the single one way or another.
