Heinrich Baermann, a clarinet virtuoso of extraordinary skill, is the inspiration for Carl Maria von Weber's Quintet in B flat major Op. 34, one of his most interesting and challenging works for this instrument.
Begun in 1811 and completed in 1815, the Quintet is conceived as a concerto for solo clarinet rather than a chamber composition.
