Traveling to North Macedonia has been on my bucket list for over 10 years.
I took a 3 hour bus ride from Tirana, Albania to Ohrid. It cost around $15.

Ohrid is fairly small, and I didn't want to leave. I could have easily spent 3 days here.
It's really safe and walkable; you won't need to order a taxi at all.
Ohrid is still very affordable, as it's not a huge tourist destination. I recommend coming here before it gets too commercialized, and it loses its charm.
