Overture from the opera William Tell by Gioachino Rossini. This particular arrangement is for flute and percussion ensemble and comprises of 15 separate parts.
The overture, which lasts for approximately 11 minutes, paints a musical picture of life in the Swiss Alps. It was described by Hector Berlioz as a symphony in four parts. But unlike an actual symphony with its distinct movements, the overture's parts transition from one to the next without a break. The four parts throughout the overture are know as "Prelude: Dawn, Storm, Ranz des Vaches and the Finale.. sometimes referred to as the March of the Swiss Soldiers.
This was performed remotely during the Coronavirus pandemic by Andrew Douglas and Drew Vincent.
Flutes used are: Keefe Piccolo, Willy Simmons G Treble, Altus 1807, Trevor James Alto, Monnig C Bass, Kingma Contra Bass.
