This presentation, based upon the book published by The History Press, tells the story of how Better Made came to be, how its chips are made, and how competition has shaped the industry. More than forty local chip companies once fed the Motor City's never-ending appetite for salty snacks, including New Era, Everkrisp, Krun-Chee, Mello Crisp, Wolverine, and Vita-Boy. Today only Better Made remains. Better Made co-founder Pete Cipriano lived in Grosse Pointe Park.
Karen Dybis has been a Grosse Pointe resident since 2002 and is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She has blogged as Assignment Detroit writer for Time Magazine, worked for the Oakland Press & Detroit News and jumped on breaking stories for publications including Corp! magazine, Detroit Unspun and Agence France-Presse newswire. About the Bicknell Lecture Series:
In 1987, Dr. Frank Bicknell, a long time Grosse Pointe resident and well-known Detroit Medical Center urologist, celebrated his 80th birthday. His daughter and son-in-law established the Grosse Pointe Historical Society's Bicknell Fund to mark his milestone birthday. This fund established the Dr. Frank Bicknell Lecture Series; all Bicknell Lectures are free of charge and open to everyone.
