The Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) is a brooding, eternal land of Precambrian rock and water, or at this time of year ice, with ancient trails trod deep by the moccasins and snowshoes of countless generations. Stretching more than 100 miles along the Canadian border, the Boundary Waters is federal wilderness within the Superior National Forest and an international treasure. It is a land of 1.1 million acres of unbroken forest and more than 1000 lakes, where with only a few exceptions motorized transport is strictly prohibited. Join me if you will on a winter camping trek in this amazing landscape in the waning days of winter.
