This World Bank-led event convened multilateral and government partners from Geneva and Rome for a “hard talk” on overcoming barriers to address malnutrition. With every US$1 invested in nutrition resulting in US$23 in economic benefits, what is needed to move the needle? Scaling up nutrition globally will require additional US$13 billion a year - but financing alone is not enough. The event discussed how political leadership, institutional capacity, and multi-sectoral collaboration can make the difference in accelerating nutrition outcomes. Panellists shared their experience on addressing these issues – including Indonesia’s success in reducing stunting by 10% from 2018-23 through multisector approaches; keeping the momentum on nutrition amid competing urgencies and challenges; integrating nutrition into food systems policies and programs; and ensuring greater donor coherence. A Q&A session with participants further reflected on the need to advance on public-private cooperation and on aligning health and food security agendas.
