In this video, I type in the program Blackbox, from More BASIC Computer Games, a book published by Creative Computing Press in 1979.
More BASIC Computer Games was edited by David Ahl, and it's a fantastic time capsule of the types of games and applications that were around for personal computers in 1979. All 84 games are written in Microsoft BASIC without any extended or system-specific features, meaning that they should work on pretty much any computer that supported the language.
Blackbox is based on a 1977 game published in Games & Puzzles magazine, and there was also a boardgame of the same name. In the game, you are trying to determine the location of hidden atoms on an 8x8 grid. To do so, you send in rays from around the edges of the grid, and based on what happens to the ray, you can deduce where the atoms are. It's fun and challenging, especially with 3 or more atoms.
