In this educational example, we tried to obtain modeling parameters (a , b , c ) and acceptance criteria ( IO , LS , CP ) for a shear controlled concrete beam. In concrete beams, unlike steel beams, the force displacement curve is not symmetrical.Because in concrete beams, the amount of bending rebar at the top and bottom of the section and at the beginning and end of the beam is not the same. This makes the specifications of the plastic Hing for the beginning of the beam to be different from the end of the beam.To obtain the parameters, FEMA 356 was used and the results of ETABS were also used. First, we have to check whether the beam is controlled by bending or shear, and then we calculate the rotations.
